FAQ
What should I expect?
Counseling is typically pretty laid back.
We basically just talk. I try my best to be a
better listener than a talker. I try not to give advice,
but to listen and walk alongside you as you process
the situation and arrive at the best possible solution.
Sometimes the younger (and occasionally even the older) crowd prefers to fidget
while we talk. I have a number of fidget toys in my office and we also have access
to multiple playrooms in our office suite as well. I often find that this helps
make the process less awkward for middle-high school students (and even adults) who may not be used to this process.
Are these sessions confidential?
Yes. Everything that is said in the office stays there. Anything I write down
is locked up at the end of the day and there are at least three locks separating
it from the hallway outside our office suite.
The only exceptions to the rule are:
- A client tells me they are going to hurt/neglect someone else
- A minor tells me they are in imminent danger (or suicidal), at which point, caregivers are notified and appropriate action is taken.
Once per week, I meet with my supervisor who can see my progress notes for each client.
Sometimes we collaborate on the best treatment options for clients. This is all done in a clinical setting and is strictly confidential.
Do you offer telehealth/in-person services?
I can offer both telehealth and in-person services. Whichever works best for you. We can meet at my office in Greenwood, or online using Telehealth by Simple Practice.
Do you take insurance?
No. There are a few reasons for that:
- Many therapists (and healthcare professionals in general) find insurance companies
to be a limiting factor on the services they can provide.
- I would rather focus on your treatment than on how to adapt things to fit an insurance company's way of working.
- Insurance companies also require a formal diagnosis in most cases (which is out of the scope of most "talk therapists" in the state of Indiana).
There are a number of situations in which, that diagnostic "label" could have a negative impact on a person's future goals, even after we have addressed the issue.
What is the cost of a typical session?
The standard rate per session is $80.
A sliding fee scale is available as well as discounts for pastoral families.
I am able to accept HSA (Health Savings Account) cards as well as cash, debit, credit, or checks.
